Event Description

As part of our lunchtime Cyber Career Discovery series for students and teachers, Jennie Kam will discuss her cybersecurity career path, her work as a security researcher at Cisco, and her role in the United States Government with technology and cyber policy.  Ms. Kam worked as a Congressional staff member for the US House Committee on Financial Services Majority Staff where she supported the Task Forces on Artificial Intelligence and Financial Technology and where she provided briefings to Committee staff on technology issues in the financial services space.  She was also a Consulting Digital Fellow and Congressional Innovation Fellow for the TechCongress.   Ms. Kam will describe her work and the skills needed to be successful in the world of government and cybersecurity.

Jennie Kam

Jennie is a cybersecurity and public policy professional with over a decade of experience in the technology industry and government. She spent nearly 10 years as a white-hat hacker for Cisco, assessing products for security vulnerabilities. Jennie’s passion for education led her to develop and deliver cybersecurity workshops across the U.S. at a variety of events, including K-12 summer camps and industry conferences like DEF CON.

Jennie made her way to the federal government in 2020 via TechCongress, a fellowship program which places technologists as policy advisors to members of Congress. There she worked on cybersecurity, privacy, and financial technology public policy issues in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

Jennie holds degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and Georgia Tech.
