Event Description
Algebra is a gatekeeper for academic success and often the course where so many students begin to veer off of a college readiness trajectory in high school. This is particularly true for students of color and low income students. Contextualized mathematics, in which everything students learn is first grounded in real world applications, is a way to make Algebra less abstract and more meaningful to students. The AMPED on Algebra program, which can be implemented either through individual lessons or as an entire curriculum, puts algebra in the context of running a business. If you’re tired of hearing “When will we ever use this?”, then AMPED on Algebra may be just what you need. The curriculum can be used in an Algebra I class or in CTE courses such as business, entrepreneurship, or manufacturing. A full unit by unit correlation to the Algebra I TEKS can be downloaded HERE.
