Event Description

Interested in teaching cybersecurity but don’t know where to start? Join us for this NSF grant funded workshop from the SANS institute for active experiences in topics such as:

  • Why teach cybersecurity?
  • Setting up secure, virtual, web-based environments for your students to work in
  • Identifying web vulnerabilities
  • Utilizing Wireshark for digital forensics
  • Competing in Capture the Flag events and other student competitions like Girls Go CyberStart
  • Understanding the new Texas Cybersecurity courses and pathways

As part of a grant to the Cybersecurity Education, Research and Outreach Center at Tennessee Tech University by the National Science Foundation, The University of Texas at Austin is partnering with SANS CyberStart for a full day of presentations and activities focused on how to succeed in cybersecurity competitions and make them part of classroom cybersecurity learning. Certificates of Participation - Certificates stating 7 hours of Continuing Professional Education hours (CPE credits) earned will be sent electronically after the participant has completed the online course evaluation. Any questions about certificates should be directed toward the contact person listed on this page.

  Refunds will not be issued for cancellations or those not in attendance.
  Event limited to 25 participants.

PARTICIPANTS MUST CREATE A UTEID AND PASSWORD IN ORDER TO REGISTER FOR ANY EVENT.

When you are ready to register, it will ask you to login. You will need to login with your UTEID and password. If you do not remember your UTEID and password you can click on “I forgot my UTEID or password” link or if you need a UTEID created, click on “Get a UTEID” from the login screen (under the orange dot in the center of the page).  For more UTEID information Click here.

Payment Information and Instructions

  • Paying with a credit card will instantly secure your purchase.
  • Paying with a check will reserve your purchase in our system. Your purchase will be considered incomplete until your check is processed by our office. This may take up to three weeks to occur. You will be notified by email when your check is processed.
  • Purchase orders can be used to secure purchases initiated with a check payment. Click "Have a Purchase Order?" during checkout and follow the listed instructions.

An invoice is automatically generated and emailed to you by the system once you have selected “Pay with Check” or “Pay with Credit Card.” The registration confirmation email will contain all of the necessary information you need to provide to your business offices regarding credit card payment records and check processing instructions.

Checks must be made out to “The University of Texas at Austin” and mailed along with the printed invoice to the address below.

A NOTE ABOUT MEALS

Breakfast and lunch will be provided; a menu will be emailed to you the week prior to the event. If you have special dietary needs or preferences, feel free to bring your own meals as we are not able to accomodate everyone's needs.

Schedule

This event wil be from 8am-4pm.

Breakfast and registration from 8-8:30am. The training will be 8:30am-4pm.

Getting There

The Advanced Computing Building is located at 10505 Exploration Way.

You can enter the Pickle Research Campus from Braker Lane and find the Advanced Computer Building (ACB #205) shortly after on your left. 

Or, you can enter the Pickle Research Campus from 10100 Burnet Road onto Read Granberry Trail and then turn right on Exploration Way until you see the ACB on your right.

Parking permits will be distributed at the registration desk.
