K-5 Integrated Sample Lessons

The new Technology Applications TEKS are here, and we have created sample lessons on how to integrate these standards into core curricula!

WeTeach_CS is excited to announce our latest project, which involves creating sample lessons for grades K-5 that will help implement the new Technology Application TEKS with Science, Math, Reading Language Arts, and Social Studies. This project is aimed at providing teachers with a comprehensive and practical resource that enables them to effectively teach their students in a digital age.

The sample lessons will cover the five main Tech Apps Strands: Computational Thinking, Creativity and Innovation, Data Literacy, Management, and Representation, Digital Citizenship, and Practical Technology Concepts. Additionally, each lesson will follow the 5E Learning Cycle Framework, as laid out by TEA below, which provides an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning.

The lessons are designed to be engaging, hands-on, and interactive, and they will be paired with either the Scientific and Engineering Practices strand of Science TEKS, or Math, Reading Language Arts, or Social Studies TEKS. This approach will enable teachers to integrate technology applications with various subjects, making learning more meaningful and engaging for students.

WeTeach_CS understands the importance of building a strong computer science pipeline from kindergarten to high school, and we are committed to supporting this effort. This project aims to provide engaging, hands-on lessons that will introduce students to important tech concepts and inspire them to pursue computer science in high school and beyond.

We believe that every student should have access to quality computer science education, regardless of their background, and we are committed to reaching gender parity, serving students from underrepresented groups, economically disadvantaged, and students from rural communities. Our lessons are designed to be inclusive and engaging for all students, and we hope that they will inspire a diverse group of students to pursue computer science in the future.

Through this project, we hope to create a community of educators who are passionate about integrating technology applications into their curriculum and building a strong computer science pipeline for the future. We are excited to be a part of this important effort, and we look forward to working with you to inspire the next generation of computer scientists.

Sample lessons can be accessed through this link. Please keep in mind this is a live link, and these lessons are currently in the process of being created.
