Event Description
Participants will attend a four-day virtual summer workshop and six virtual follow-up sessions in the evenings on how to teach the WeTeach_AP®CSA online curriculum, designed to prepare students for the AP Computer Science A test.
The WeTeach_AP®CSA 4-day virtual days (June 26-29) and six virtual follow-up academic year sessions (see dates below) are designed to teach the WeTeach_AP®CSA online curriculum and prepare students for the AP Computer Science A test. The language for the AP CSA test is Java, and the entire curriculum is based on this programming language. The curriculum is endorsed and recommended by the College Board. It is mostly web-based, with online lessons and videos for both teachers and students to use, as well as labs completed using the online programming platform Codio. PDF documents and Google Forms are also provided as an alternative lesson format. All quizzes are paper/pencil based since this is how the test is given.
This is NOT a training for beginning computer science teachers with no relevant experience. It is highly recommended teachers have prior knowledge in computer science as well as Java programming, preferably at least one year teaching computer science using Java. It is also recommended teachers have taken and passed a certification instrument for computer science, whether the TExES, Praxis, Pearson, or other certification requirements for your school.
The workshop will be fast-paced, experiencing each unit of the curriculum. Be prepared to have fun, and experience a unique and engaging curriculum your students will really appreciate and learn well from. It's going to be great!
Certificates of Participation - Certificates stating 28 hours of Continuing Professional Education hours (CPE credits) earned will be sent electronically after the participant has completed the online course evaluation. Any questions about certificates should be directed toward the contact person listed on this page.
